How to choose a tension pressure sensor?
2025-03-01
When choosing a tension pressure sensor, you must first determine what force is being measured. Force sensors are divided into mechanical force and pneumatic (hydraulic) force. Mechanical force units are generally N, KN, KGF, etc., and pneumatic and hydraulic units are generally KPa, MPa, PSI, etc.
1. Regarding mechanical pressure, you must first consider whether to measure pressure or tension. If you only measure pressure, you can choose a compression force sensor. If you need to measure tension, you need to choose a tension pressure sensor. In addition, if you need to connect tooling or pressure heads, it is best to choose a tension pressure sensor to facilitate tooling zeroing. The author has seen an example where a customer chose a compression force sensor. The pressure sensor pressed down, first pressing the tooling, and then continued to press down until it pressed the product. In this way, the tension pressure sensor is first subjected to force, and then the product is subjected to force. The pressure sensor and the product are subjected to different forces. The product itself is subjected to less force than the pressure sensor. When the structure has been finalized, the customer can only add compensation values in the PLC program. In this case, if you choose a pressure sensor and connect the sensor and the tooling together, it can be completely avoided.
2. The selection of the range, in order to prevent the sensor from being damaged due to overload, the range should be selected as large as possible within the range of accuracy. If it is driven by a cylinder or electric cylinder, the maximum thrust of the cylinder or electric cylinder should be calculated, including the impact force.
3. The size of the pull pressure sensor. If the installation space is not limited, you can choose a larger sensor. The bottom of the sensor generally has threaded holes, which is convenient for installation. It can be fixed directly with screws, which can save the trouble of processing the fixture. In general, the accuracy of a slightly larger sensor is relatively higher.
4. The ambient temperature has a certain impact on the operation of the sensor. When selecting a pressure sensor, the temperature factor should also be considered. If the ambient temperature is too high, you should explain to the manufacturer and choose a high-temperature sensor.
5. Since the tension and pressure sensor outputs a millivolt signal, which is not a standard analog signal, it should be equipped with a transmitter, also called an amplifier, to convert the signal into a standard analog signal or digital signal, such as standard analog 4-20mA, 0-5V, 0-10V, digital RS232, RS485, etc.
6. If on-site display is required, a display instrument is required, and one of the display instrument and the transmitter is required. If you need to connect to a PLC or other acquisition system, you need to select a display instrument with analog output or serial communication.
