Medical Device Innovator Achieves Safer Minimally Invasive Surgery with 3-Axis Force Sensing

2026-06-24

Surgical robotics company MedForce Systems has successfully completed clinical validation of its new laparoscopic platform after embedding compact 3-axis force sensors at the instrument tip.

The sensors continuously measure interaction forces between the tool and tissue in three dimensions, providing surgeons with haptic feedback that was previously unavailable in purely visual systems. During trials, the technology helped maintain forces below tissue-damage thresholds and improved consistency across operators of varying experience levels.

“Real-time multi-axis force data is a game-changer for patient safety,” noted Dr. Elena Vargas, Chief Medical Officer at MedForce. “Our surgeons can now feel resistance and adjust pressure with far greater precision, especially in delicate procedures involving vascular or neural structures.”

MedForce plans commercial release of the enhanced system in selected markets later this year and is already exploring applications in orthopedic and neurosurgical robotics.
